About Us

  brief history

CANMEE was conceived by a network of professional organizations (California Mathematics Project, Benjamin Banneker Association, County Offices of Education, Lawrence Hall of Science, CA Mathematics Council, CA Mathematics Teacher Association, Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative, TODOS) each committed to a vision of equity in mathematics classrooms; the project's start-up efforts were financially supported by California Mathematics Project, S.C. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, CA Mathematics Council, and TODOS. CANMEE is a signature project of the California Mathematics Project for the purpose of learning to design mathematics lessons with the dual purpose of relevant, grade-level mathematics and equity.

OUR Problem of Practice

Some students, particularly students who have been traditionally underserved, have not been provided the opportunity to access high quality, relevant, cognitively demanding, and grade-level mathematics.

our design

Maintaining a dual goal of mathematics and equity, using focal students as a lens for improvements, and defining an equity-based research theme are the pillars of the design of a CANMEE lesson study.

TRU
MATH

Five dimensions of Teaching for Robust Understanding (TRU) Math are at the heart of our learning designs.
